Singles Day 2026 and Early Black Friday Deals: When to Buy and When to Wait

0 comments 6 views

Singles Day 2026 is on Wednesday, November 11. Black Friday is on Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday is on Monday, November 30. Many retailers start "early Black Friday" sales in the first half of November, so the deal season has effectively already begun. The smartest approach is to decide what you actually need, set a target price, and check the price history before you buy.

Key dates for November 2026

EventDate
Singles Day (11.11)Wednesday, November 11
Black Week (used by many European retailers)Around November 23–29
US ThanksgivingThursday, November 26
Black FridayFriday, November 27
Cyber MondayMonday, November 30

The dates are the same everywhere, but the deals aren't. What's on offer depends on your country, your retailer and your category, so always check the store you actually shop at.

What is Singles Day, anyway?

Singles Day began in the early 1990s as a tongue-in-cheek celebration among students at Nanjing University in China. The date, 11/11, was chosen because the four ones look like four people standing alone. In 2009, Alibaba ran its first Singles Day sale with 27 participating brands. By 2019, it recorded $38.4 billion in sales in 24 hours, which turned an offbeat student joke into the biggest online shopping event in the world.

It's still known as Double 11 in Chinese marketing, and these days plenty of retailers outside China join in. The good news for shoppers: you don't need a membership or a special account to access most Singles Day offers.

"Early Black Friday" is the new normal

Black Friday used to be a one-day event. Now it's a month-long season. Last year, Target began weekly deals on November 1, and Walmart opened its first Black Friday event on November 14, two weeks before the day itself, with early access for paid members the evening before.

A German price-tracking site found something even more telling: of 376 deals from two big electronics chains last November, only 15 actually landed on Black Friday itself. The takeaway is simple. If you wait for the "official" day, you may have missed the best price already.

That said, some stores save their deepest cuts for the Black Friday weekend. So neither "buy now" nor "wait" is always right. Which brings us to the next question.

Should you buy on Singles Day or wait for Black Friday?

Here's the rule of thumb we like: buy on Singles Day if the price is genuinely good and you need the item now. Otherwise, compare again during Black Week.

A few more guidelines:

  • Fashion and small gadgets: Singles Day often has strong, specific offers, and it's the first big discount date of the season.
  • Gaming: Deals can show up about a week before Black Friday, so start watching early. If you're after a console, controller or storage for a big launch like GTA 6 or the new Zelda, keep reading below.
  • Big tech (TVs, laptops, phones): The best prices often cluster close to Black Friday, sometimes the evening before. Early access windows can matter.
  • Phone plans and subscriptions: These tend to come on Black Friday itself.
  • Anything you don't urgently need: Wait, watch the price and let it come to you.

How to spot a real deal (and avoid a fake one)

Countdown timers, red price tags and "only 3 left" banners are designed to rush you. Here's how to slow down and shop like you mean it:

  1. Make a wishlist by November 20. Add a target price for each item. If it hits the number, buy it. If not, skip it.
  2. Check the price history. Price trackers compare today's price to the last few months. For example, PriceSpy tracks a product's price trend over three months and only lists an offer if it's lower than expected.
  3. Compare the final price, not the discount percentage. A "50% off" sticker means nothing if the "original" price was inflated.
  4. Add shipping and returns. A cheaper listing with slow shipping or no returns isn't always cheaper.
  5. Stick to stores you know. Unfamiliar sites with unbelievable prices are where most holiday scams hide.
  6. Don't expect the Friday order to arrive fast. Millions of orders hit around the same time, so if you need something by a certain date, order earlier.

The gamer's shortlist: GTA 6 and Zelda season

Two big games land in the same two-week window. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, and Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. Both are covered in our guides: GTA 6 release date and what we know and Ocarina of Time remake on Switch 2. (Link these to your other posts.)

If you want to save money around them, don't count on the games themselves getting discounted right away. Accessories, storage, controllers and gift cards are better bets for real savings, and gaming deals tend to appear earlier than other categories. Check the price history before you click.

A simple 7-day plan

  • Today–November 8: List everything you actually want. Set target prices.
  • November 9–10: Check price history for your top items.
  • November 11 (Singles Day): Buy only what's at or below your target.
  • November 12–22: Watch for early Black Friday offers from your usual stores.
  • November 23–30: Black Week to Cyber Monday. Fill the gaps and compare.
