GTA 6 Release Date: Everything We Know Before the November 19 Launch
GTA 6 release date at a glance
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no announced PC version yet. Rockstar has moved the date twice before, but Take-Two's CEO has publicly said he feels good about this one, and no new delay has been announced as of this writing. That puts launch about 15 days away.
If you only need the essentials, here they are:
| Detail | What we know |

| Platforms | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S |
| PC release | Not announced |
| Digital preload | Reported for November 12, 2026 (confirm on Rockstar's channels) |
| Setting | The state of Leonida, including a modern Vice City |
| Exact unlock time | Not officially published |
How we got here: two delays in two years
If you've been following this game, you already know the date has moved. Rockstar first aimed for fall 2025, then pushed to May 26, 2026, and on November 6, 2025 announced the current date of November 19, 2026. In its statement, the studio apologized for adding time to "a long wait" and said the extra months would let it finish the game with the polish players expect.
Since then, the date has been repeated in Take-Two's earnings updates and in Rockstar's own marketing material. One of the better signs: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has reaffirmed it publicly, and a Rockstar North developer has also reassured fans that November 19 is the plan.
Will it slip again? Nobody outside Rockstar can say for sure. But with marketing already running and preloads close, the odds look better than they did a year ago. We'd still keep an eye on Rockstar's official Newswire until you're actually playing.
Which platforms is GTA 6 coming to?
GTA 6 is confirmed for two platforms only: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC release date, and there's no separate release date for the online component either.
So if you're a PC player, the honest answer is: you're waiting, and nobody can tell you for how long. Be careful with any site claiming a PC date. If it isn't on Rockstar's or Take-Two's channels, treat it as a guess.
Pre-orders, preloads and unlock time
Pre-orders are open on the console storefronts, and Xbox's store page already lists the November 19 date.
A few practical points that matter more than they sound:
- Preload: Several trackers report that digital preloading begins on November 12, a week before launch. Treat this as likely, and confirm it on Rockstar's official page.
- Early access: Reports suggest every edition unlocks on the same day, so a pricier edition buys extras, not a head start.
- Unlock time: Rockstar hasn't published an exact clock time. Based on how past big releases worked, a midnight unlock in your region is the common expectation, but that's an expectation, not a promise.
What is GTA 6 about?
The game takes place in the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and the areas around it. The story follows two leads, Jason and Lucia, who have always known the deck is stacked against them, according to the official store description. Rockstar describes it as the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series so far.
That's about as much as Rockstar has officially said. Everything beyond that, from mission structure to map size, is still mostly speculation, so we'll skip it here.
How to get ready in the next 15 days
You can't speed up the calendar, but you can make launch day smoother.
- Clear storage now. Big modern games take a lot of space. Rockstar hasn't confirmed the download size, so free up more than you think you need.
- Update your console. Do it before preload day so a system update doesn't eat into your launch evening.
- Check your internet plan. If you're on a capped connection, plan the download around it.
- Decide where you're buying. Digital means preloading. Physical means checking your retailer's stock and delivery date. Sellers have been known to cancel oversold orders around big launches, so confirm yours.
- Avoid spoilers. Mute keywords on social media a few days before launch.
- Watch the deals calendar. Singles Day lands on November 11 and Black Friday on November 27. If you're hoping to pair GTA 6 with a console, controller or storage upgrade, our guide to Singles Day and early Black Friday deals will help you time it. (Link this to your Singles Day post.)
What we still don't know
Being upfront about gaps is more useful than pretending they don't exist. As of today, these are still unconfirmed:
- A PC release date
- The official unlock time on release day
- A separate date for the online mode
- The final download size
We'll update this post when Rockstar clears any of these up.
